Self-Help Groups
Self-help groups bring together people who share a common life experience, for support, education, and mutual aid. Members of self-help groups share a belief that positive personal change happens through individual efforts with the support of others. For information about starting a group in your area contact Judy Oberheu at judy.oberheu@nmss.org or 1-800-344-4867.

Family Support and Couples-Focused Programs
Parents of Teens and Young Adults with MS
This group is just what the name implies: a place for parents who have teenage or young adult children with MS to come together. We have a mom of a college student with MS willing to facilitate this group. The meetings will be held at the Landon Center on the KU Medical Center campus. If you are interested, please contact Judy at (913) 432-3926 or info@nmsskc.org.
Mommies and Daddies with MS
This group is for parents with MS who have children ages birth to 12 years old. Ideas are still being explored such as a child-friendly support group for parents, play dates for the kids, outings for both parents and their children or exercise classes for parents. The group will be designed so that children can see that they are not alone in their experience with MS. Their family is just like many others in our area. We currently have a mom with MS in Kansas City willing to facilitate this group. If you'd like more information, please contact Judy Oberheu at (913) 432-3926 or info@nmsskc.org.

Mommies with MS
Sundays, 3 p.m. CST
Mommies with MS, a new national online radio program, is the brainchild of Tahirah Falah. Tahirah's goal is to create a forum for new moms with MS to share their stories and discuss issues related to child-rearing while dealing with the disease. Topics include coping with stress of new duties, bonding with your newborn and more.
The program is broadcast every Sunday at 3 p.m. CST. To listen and call in, go to www.blogtalkradio.com/msmommies.
Bike MS and Walk MS Champions
Every year, thousands of people gather to be a part of Walk MS and Bike MS. At the MS Society, it is our desire that every participant is connected to our mission a world free of MS. We want each participant to discover why we are so passionate about accomplishing this important mission. One of the best ways for this to happen is for them to know someone with MS. This is exactly the goal of our Champions program.
As a Champion with MS, you will be paired with a Walk MS Champion/Bike MS Champion that you can contact before, during and after the event. You can motivate your Champion as they prepare to Walk or Bike to end MS through offering personal encouragement, sharing your stories and expressing your gratitude for all they do to help find a cure. We would love for you to come to the finish line to cheer them on! If you are interested in being a part of this unique and rewarding opportunity, please contact the Mid America Chapter at 1-800-344-4867 (press or say 2) or at info@nmsskc.org.
