Annual Meeting 2008 Fundraising Volunteer Award Recipients

KEY VOLUNTEER – BIKE MS Mark & Lisa Mayeaux

For Bike MS, no moment is more spectacular than the start of the ride on that Saturday morning. This year our cyclists hit the road under a beautiful balloon arch constructed by great volunteers Mark & Lisa Mayeaux. In addition to their hours of blowing up and tying balloons, Lisa & Mark also served on the Bike MS planning committee where they eagerly took on many tasks. They served as SAG Captains coordinating our numerous support vehicles out on the route. The Louisiana Chapter is lucky to have them and that is why Mark & Lisa Mayeaux are the Key Volunteers for Bike MS.

WALK MS TOP SELF HELP GROUP Houma Zig-Zaggers (NO)

This team was formed from the Houma Self Help Group. A challenge was issued to all the support groups to see which group could have the most participants AND dollars raised. They had 31 team members and raised nearly $2000. We are proud of their hard work!

TOP FUNDRAISING TEAM – WALK MS Team Williams (Baton Rouge)

This team of 4 participants, a father and 3 sons worked very hard this year to raise money for the MS Society. They raised a total of $4,000 which is commendable work for such a small team.

EXCELLENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL FUNDRAISING Dominican High School

Dominican High School chose us as their charity of choice for the 2007-2008 school year. This was a cause very close to their hearts because a student, a teacher, and several students’ parents were all living with Multiple Sclerosis. They had numerous events throughout the year to raise funds for our chapter including selling lemonade, orange hair ribbons, painting finger nails “MS orange” and a penny drop competition. We were presented with a check in May and to our surprise and extreme excitement of $14, 225. This is the most that Dominican has ever raised for any charity, quite a remarkable feat for such young girls.

BIKE MS APPRECIATION AWARD Southeastern Louisiana University

Each October 1,000 cyclists descend upon Hammond, Louisiana for the start and finish of Bike MS. The Southeastern Louisiana University Center serves as our host and backdrop for two of the greatest moments of this weekend. We want to extend our gratitude for their hospitality and support by offering a special Bike MS Appreciation Award to Southeastern Louisiana University.

VOLUNTEER GROUP OF THE YEAR Southeast Louisiana Amateur Radio Club

The route for the Bike MS takes us through a scenic tour of the small towns of Louisiana and Mississippi, areas which aren’t always great for cell phone reception. This is why the Southeast Louisiana Amateur Radio Club is such a vital part of this event. The HAM Radio Operators are stationed throughout the route and are able to keep up with everything happening from where the first group of riders are to where our last rider is. We are happy to recognize the Southeast Louisiana Amateur Radio Group as Volunteer Group of the Year
