Reports to:     Martha Maynard, Assistant Director Community Programs
Location:    Southeastern Mass. (can work from home) NMSS office location: Wareham, Mass.
Position Summary:   This position entails researching and identifying facilities (i.e. hotels, conference centers, community buildings, etc.) that are appropriate to hold chapter programs/events within a designated chapter regional area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop list of facilities/locations for holding chapter programs/events
  • Research facilities (online, by phone, in person)
  • Identify facilities by category (i.e conference facilities, family/recreational locations, dinner programs, etc)
  • Develop list with facilities details (i.e. contact info., meeting rooms/size/location specifics, meal list/w costs, A/V equipment details/costs, overnight rooms, non-profit rates
  • Complete accessibility checks of identified locations
  • Take & pass the NMSS Accessibility Training
  • Complete accessibility checks and complete forms for each location site
  • Provide chapter staff contact with completed forms
  • Update Facilities List Annually
  • Update facilities list/details on an annual basis (this piece may be done by the same person who developed the list or additional volunteer)
  • Ongoing list expansion as new facilities become available/known

Initial Impact: 

  • Previously unknown facilities for program locations are identified
  • Increase knowledge of local facilities resources by 25%

Sustained Outcomes:

  • Expanded access of chapter programs to previously underserved areas
  • Creating opportunities for facilities/people to be involved with the NMSS in their community

Training: 

  • The Community Facilities Researcher will receive the following training:
  • Brief overview about NMSS and chapter
  • Training regarding program/event facilities/site requirements
  • NMSS Accessibility Training
  • Ongoing support/interaction with staff contact person

Support: 

  • Chapter staff available by phone or email during office hours.
  • Quarterly meeting with chapter staff contact to discuss questions and review progress.

Commitment: 

  • Participate in 1-2 hr. training/meeting at SE Chapter office
  • Complete NMSS Accessibility Training (2-3 hours)
  • Conduct initial accessibility on site check of facility location with chapter staff
  • 2-4 hours per month (at volunteers convenience) for at least 6 months

Qualifications:

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must have internet access
