The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, Maryland Chapter is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2013 Hope Award, the Chapter’s highest honor presented to an individual who exemplifies business, civic and philanthropic excellence. David J. Hepfinger, President and CEO of Weis Markets will receive the award at the 20th Annual Dinner of Champions, which will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.
Established in 1912, Weis Markets currently operates 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia. Mr. Hepfinger joined Weis Markets as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) on March 1, 2008 and became CEO in 2009. The Dinner of Champions is an opportunity for industry leaders to be celebrated by their peers for their commitment to the community and their achievement within the industry. Gold sponsors for the 2013 Dinner of Champions include H&S Bakery, Schmidt Baking Company, Bimbo Bakery, PepsiCo and Utz Quality Foods. The gala committee is being co-chaired by JR Paterakis of H&S Bakery and Kurt Schertle of Weis Markets.
All proceeds will benefit research, programs and services for the 13,000 people in Maryland and Central Pennsylvania living with multiple sclerosis. Guests will enjoy cocktails, a gourmet dinner and entertainment by Chico’s Vibe, voted “Best Live Band” by Talk of the Town in 2012. Past honorees have included: Brian Billick, Gary Williams, William Donald Schaefer, George McGowan, Lois and Alan Elkin, Robert Lawless, Henry Rosenberg, Henry Knott, and Bobby Allison.
