2009 Annual Volunteer Awards
Every year the National MS Society, Michigan Chapter, honors people who have worked to make a difference in the lives of the more the 16000 people in Michigan touched by multiple sclerosis. If you know of someone deserving please click in the appropriate award below and fill out the nomination.
YOUTH VOLUNTEER AWARD
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to one youth volunteer who has shown unusual dedication to the mission of the MS Society. Someone who; provides volunteer service for a variety of activities and / or events or exceptional commitment to or leadership for one activity or event, demonstrates commitment to the mission of ending the devastating effects of MS, works effectively as a team member with staff and other volunteers.
GEORGE A.L. GANT VOLUNTEER AWARDS
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to an outstanding volunteer in each Michigan Chapter Region (Southeastern, Eastern, Western, Northern, and Upper Peninsula) who has shown unusual dedication to the mission of the MS Society. Someone who; demonstrates commitment to the mission of the National MS Society, provides leadership for a program or event that has local and/or regional impact and benefits the MS community, works effectively with staff and other volunteers.
RICHARD ENNIS VOLUNTEER AWARD
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to one volunteer who personifies the contributions and spirit of Richard Ennis, a long-time volunteer with the Michigan Chapter. Nominee should demonstrate at least three of the following; Inspires and motivates other volunteers through his or her spirit and dedication to the mission of the MS Society, Demonstrates support and/or initiative in providing programs and services that improve the lives of people with MS and their families, particularly programs that have a regional and/or statewide impact, Provides increased awareness of the existence and purposes of the MS Society, demonstrates not only individual accomplishment, but also works effectively as a team with staff and other volunteers.
PUBLIC OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR AWARD
To express the Society’s appreciation and to provide recognition to public officials who have contributed to any or all of the following; Increased public support for health and disability policies that improve the lives of people with multiple sclerosis, Demonstrated support for health and disability programs and services that improve the lives of people with MS, Increased awareness of the existence and purpose of the National MS Society. Recipients will exhibit the following characteristics; Accomplishments that benefit people with MS specifically or people with disabilities in general, Support for health care, long term care, and/or disability policies that benefit people with MS, Support for health care, disability, and programs that benefit people with MS.
ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR AWARD
To express the Society’s appreciation and to provide recognition to individuals who have contributed to any or all of the following; Increased public support for health and disability policies that improve the lives of people with multiple sclerosis, Demonstrated support for health and disability programs and services that improve the lives of people with MS, Increased awareness of the existence and purpose of the National MS Society. Recipients will exhibit the following characteristics; Accomplishments that benefit people with MS specifically or people with disabilities in general, Support for health care, long term care, and/or disability policies that benefit people with MS, Support for health care, disability, and programs that benefit people with MS.
The MS Hope Award
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to a volunteer within our agency who has made a significant contribution to the MS cause. This contribution may be on the Chapter and/or local level and should be distinguished by the impact of their efforts and their personal dedication and commitment.
The MS Achievement Award
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to an individual with MS who has achieved outstanding success in their life. The individual need not be a member of our agency nor a volunteer. They do need to have made a significant impact in their industry or profession and in their community.
The W.B. Doner Award
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to a media representative who has gone the extra mile to promote the MS cause either in the press, on the radio, or on television.
The Corporation of the Year Award
To express the National MS Society’s appreciation of and to provide recognition to a company that has stood out in support of our cause. Contributions from previous winners include direct financial support, in-kind donations and awareness raising efforts.
