Aquatic Program
Helpful hints for participating in an Aquatic Program for people with MS

Exercise for People with MS
Exercise is vitally important for people with MS, particularly programs with qualified instructors that address individual physical needs. It is important to maintain your muscle tone. Exercise also counteracts symptoms of depression and enhances your overall well-being.

Gateway to Wellness
Our Gateway to Wellness programs provide six sessions that focus on exercise, discussion and activities to promote wellness, self-management, and balance in lifestyle.

Tai Chi for People with MS
T'ai chi, also known as t'ai chi ch'uan, was developed in China hundreds of years ago and is a component of traditional Chinese medicine. On the surface, t'ai chi appears to be simply slow body movements. In practice, it may provide some of the physical benefits of exercise and the relaxation effects of meditation. T'ai chi has been widely practiced in China for centuries and has recently become popular in the United States.

Yoga
Look first for a yoga program with instructors who have experience teaching people with MS. Call your chapter to find out if they offer any classes, but don’t be discouraged if the answer is “Sorry, no.” They may be able to refer you elsewhere. Yoga classes are likely to be offered at Y’s, health clubs, gyms, weight-loss studios, and, of course, in yoga studios.

The MS Achievement Center is designed to help people meet a range of personal goals. These include:

  • Reducing stress
