“The Ride Across Minnesota” to kick off next week

Nearly 1,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter’s 20th annual Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM Ride July 26 to 31. In 2009, the five-day, 250-mile TRAM Ride — also known as The Ride Across Minnesota — is expected to raise approximately $950,000 to help end multiple sclerosis.

Funds raised through Bike MS help support programs and services for the nearly 10,000 people living with MS in Minnesota and western Wisconsin and drive research for a cure.

To commemorate the 20-year milestone, the 2009 ride takes cyclists back to a border-to-border route, similar to the original 1990 TRAM. Cyclists start in Ortonville, Minn., and travel through Montevideo, Minn., Redwood Falls, Minn., St. Peter, Minn., and New Prague, Minn., before crossing the finish line in Welch Village near Red Wing, Minn. Among the nearly 1,000 participants in this year’s Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM Ride, 16 people will ride for their 20th consecutive year.

A registration fee and $300 minimum pledge are required to participate. To register or learn more, visit www.bikeMSminnesota.org or call 800-582-5296.
