Meet the critics

Library critics are volunteers of the National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter. Their opinions do not reflect those of the society. Thank you critics for your dedication to the movement and your passion to help others affected by MS.

Kelli Heywood  Kelli H. of South St. Paul, Minn.
I was diagnosed with primary-progressive MS in 1996 and have been a member of the National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter ever since. I am a single mom of a college-aged daughter. I love animals and reading, traveling and family time. MS has slowed me down but not stopped me.

Donald E. Winters  Donald E. W., Ph. D of Minneapolis, Minn.
I was diagnosed with MS in 1980, the same year in which I received my Ph. D in American Studies from the U of M. I have been retired from teaching for four years. Since retirement, I have been doing volunteer work as a writing tutor for Minneapolis Community and Technical College as well as teaching poetry and popular culture.

Ella Magstadt Ella M. of Minneapolis, Minn.
I live at Kingsley Commons, housing built specifially for persons who have MS. I had MS symptoms for most of my adult life and was finally diagnosed at age 49 (almost 30 years ago). My childhood years were lived on a farm in South Dakota. I am an R.N., retired for over 20 years. I have three adult children and one grandaughter.

R. Novak of Minneapolis, Minn.
I live in Kingsley Commons and have primary progressive MS. I was born and raised in Eau Claire,Wis., I have two grown daughters and several grandchildren. I have a degree in Social work with a women's study minor and have almost completed a master's degree.

Kim G. of Austin, Minn.
I was diagnosed in April, 2000. I'm married and a mother of a 19- and 18-year-old, work two-part time jobs and volunteer as Austin's Birthright Director. I'm also active in church and a community Bible study and a leader of Moms In Touch high school group for the past five years.

S. Pickett of White Bear Lake, Minn.
I work a fulltime job in  four days of the week. I have twins that are 13- years-old, a 31-year-old and granddaughter that is nine. I've had relapsing remitting MS for more than 24 years.

Lucy K. of Minnetonka, Minn.
I have MS and am no longer working, but volunteering to fill my days in a meaningful way. I volunteer for the MS Society as a book critic and phone mentor. I also love reading,scrabble and gardening, and have two daughters ages 17 and 28.
