Scholarships

We believe that MS should not stand in the way of an education. The National MS Society Scholarship Program helps students affected by MS move forward in their lives.

2010 Scholarships
Enrollment for the 2010 Scholarship Program is now open (see green box at right to apply). The National MS Society Scholarship Program is for first-time college freshmen only. For questions about completing the online application, contact customer service at 877-787-4228 or nmss@act.org.

Chapter awards scholarships to 52 area students in 2009

This year, the National MS Society Scholarship Program awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to students across the country. The Minnesota Chapter alone granted 52 scholarships — totaling more than $100,000 — to help college-bound students touched by MS in the local area pursue post-secondary education.

History

The Scholarship Program was created in 2003 to address the needs of students affected by MS. Each year, eligible students can apply for the program. The Society contracts with ACT, a national scholarship management organization, to receive and screen all applications. Qualified applicants from the Minnesota Chapter service area are forwarded to the chapter and a dedicated volunteer scholarship review team examines all qualified applicants to determine awards and funding levels. To receive more information about eligibility criteria, awards and more, visit the National MS Society’s Scholarship Program page.

For more information about the scholarship program, contact Megan Sparks at 612-335-7955 or msparks@mssociety.org.

In addition to financial support, the chapter offers a volunteer mentor program for scholars. Mentors keep in contact with scholars to provide a vital, ongoing link between students and the MS Society. To learn more about the scholarship mentor program, contact Connie Gunderson Warner at 612-335-7964 or cgundersonwarner@mssociety.org.
