Financial planning can be an intimidating subject, but there are experts who can provide guidance and support. The Minnesota Chapter, in collaboration with the Financial Education Partners Program (FEP), offers free personal financial counseling to people with MS.
This program is provided by volunteers from the Twin Cities Chapter of The Society of Financial Service Professionals. Individual counseling sessions are typically done over the phone and last less than one hour.
These free professional consultations can help you address a variety of financial topics, including:
- Basic budgeting
- Savings vehicles: pros and cons
- Insurance analysis, claims assistance
- Investment review and planning
- Employee benefits analysis: medical plans, disability coverage and life insurance
- Retirement planning: analysis and tax planning/effectiveness
- Estate planning: strategies to maximize inheritances
If you are interested in financial counseling, contact Steve Korngable at 612-335-7974, 800-582-5296 or skorngable@MSsociety.org.
Participants should not expect an FEP advisor to act as their long-term financial advisor or sell them financial products.
