MargitName: Margit Whitam

Diagnosed in: 1999

What makes me strong: I have a very positive attitude. I use my positive attitude to live strong each day with MS and help educate and tell others about living with MS.

I enjoy being a woman because: I am not a man! I have the ability to show that I can still be a caretaker and also live with a disease that sometimes won’t allow me to be the primary caretaker.

What my joys in life are: My family and my friends. My joy of living a healthy life with MS is also a positive. Speaking to others about MS is a great joy.

What my fears are: That my MS will get worse and I may not be able to do the things I can do now. I fear that my children may not know a world free of MS, but I hope that all we are doing now will let them see a world free of MS.

What makes me unique: My quirky sense of humor and personality and my love of life despite MS.

MS has taught me: To not always be in control. To love every minute of life. To experience everything to its fullest. To appreciate life!

One piece of advice that I would give to someone newly diagnosed with MS is: Learn about MS. Work with the MS Society to get information and work with your physician to get accurate information. Gain a mentor that has MS that can be a source of strength for you.
