Communications:
Communications Work Team Volunteer - The Communications Work Team is designed to be an extension of the Gateway Area Chapter of the National MS Society. The Work Team assists the Director of Communications and communications staff in raising awareness of MS and the Gateway Area Chapter in our 90-county service area.
Speakers Bureau Training Volunteer - This volunteer position will serve as a key volunteer speaker and trainer in Mid-Missouri for the Communications Department’s Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau assists the chapter in further reaching out to educate and inform the public of the society’s mission, programs and services, and events.
Volunteer Writer - This volunteer position will offer assistance to the Chapter communications department in the area of feature story writing and development, as well as publication writing. The Publications Coordinator will distribute writing assignments to the volunteers and will follow up to ensure completion within the assigned time frame.
Development:
Development Fundraising Packet Coordinator - This position will coordinate and organize all fundraising packets
Team Prize Coordinator - This position will provide assistance with securing incentive gifts to motivate team captains in recruitment efforts
Donor Development:
Donor Acknowledgement Call Coordinator - This position will organize and manage the call program acknowledging donors for their giving
Memorial and Tributes Researcher - This position will provide support to the Donor Development Department. It will be the responsibility of the Memorial and Tributes Researcher to regularly check obituaries in their local newspaper and report any obituaries that mention the National MS Society the Donor Coordinator
Women on the Move Coordinator - This position will organize and manage the RSVP’s for Women on the Move.
Programs:
Beginning Conversations Volunteer - The volunteer will provide information and support about MS and the Chapter to people newly diagnosed. The person newly diagnosed may require support or have questions about being newly diagnosed that the volunteer will need to answer.
Community Service Investigator – Data Entry - The Community Service Investigator (CSI) - Data Entry volunteer provides the crucial final step to the Service Provider Update Project by inputting service provider data collected by Chapter staff, interns and volunteers into the Chapter’s database.
Community Service Investigator (Cape Girardeau, Metro East and St. Louis) - The volunteer will search for new service providers (organizations, businesses, allied health professionals, etc.) and update information on existing Chapter service providers. The update and research for service providers will encompass the Gateway Area Chapter’s entire 90-county are in Missouri and Illinois.
Fitness Club Historian - The Fitness Clubs, started in 2008, are similar to a support group with a focus on exercise and recreation. People with the common interest of staying healthy will get together on a monthly basis and exercise together. The historian will be responsible for documenting all Fitness Club activities through photography and written description.
New Connections Volunteer - The volunteer will host a New Connections social hour. The volunteer will provide information and support about MS and the Chapter to people newly diagnosed or new to the chapter.
NHC MS Wing Activity Volunteer - NHC staff organizes resident activities that encourage socialization time, and physical and cognitive exercises. The Gateway Area Chapter organizes and financially supports the four outings per year. Outings have included a trip to the chapter’s annual Family Evening at Grant’s Farm and a visit to the Enabling Mobility Center’s open house for their new assistive technology lab, the Botanical Garden, the Butterfly House, a Christmas shopping trip to the Mills Mall. The NHC MS Wing Activity Volunteer will play an important part in the social enrichment of the lives of the residents.

Program MS Ambassador Volunteer - MS Ambassadors are volunteers that can spread the word about MS in their community. Their knowledge about the Chapter’s advocacy, support, research, programs and fundraising gives MS Ambassadors the chance to increase the capacity of the Chapter moving the Society closer to achieving the mission. They play a critical role in communicating the availability of vital Chapter programs and services to people with MS and their families.
Research Advocate - A Research Advocate is a volunteer champion of the National MS Society’s research mission who promotes the Society’s research activities and communicates progress in MS research to constituents, donors, and the general public in the chapter area. An RA is accountable to the RAP staff liaison at the chapter
Self-Help Group Leader or Co-Leader - Self-help groups at the MS Society bring people together who share a common life experience (living with MS) for support, education, and mutual aid. They share a belief that positive personal change can happen through individual effort with the support of others. Leaders of chapter-affiliated self-help groups are valuable volunteers for the National MS Society and perform an integral role in facilitating this process. Self-help group leaders and co-leaders, with the assistance and participation of group members, manage the organizational and logistical aspects of group facilitation, by negotiating and dividing tasks among co-leaders and members.
Tele-friend Administrative Coordinator - Provide administrative support for the Tele-Friend program overseeing distribution of documentation for and tracking of individuals interested in receiving or making Tele-friend calls
Tele-friend Peer Volunteer - Provide peer volunteer calls to individuals with MS
Services:
Administrative Office Volunteer for Care Management - Perform administrative duties assigned by the Care Managers
Administrative Office Volunteer for Services - Perform administrative duties assigned by the Programs and Services Associate.
Long-term Care In-services Volunteer - Provide profession education on-site in-service training to Certified Nursing Assistants, Personal Care Assistants and Home Care Aides at long term care facilities.
Services Administrative Supervisor - Assist in recruiting and coordinate administrative volunteers for the Services Department. Oversee, assign and perform administrative duties along with other volunteers.
Social enrichment volunteer - Regularly visit the MS Wing The Heights at NHC of Town and Country and interact with the residents who choose to do so.
Volunteer:
Volunteer – Community Outreach Assistant - Provide administrative assistance to the Volunteer – Community Outreach Department. The Society utilizes over 1,200 volunteers annually and it will be the role of the Volunteer – Community Outreach Assistant to assist with the administration, management, and evaluation of volunteers.
Volunteer Recognition Senior Consultant - Provide administrative assistance to the Volunteer – Community Outreach Department. The Society utilizes over 1,200 volunteers annually and it will be the role of the Volunteer Recognition Senior Consultant to collaborate with the Volunteer – Community Outreach Coordinator to recognize volunteers who donate their time to the agency.
Volunteer Recruitment Specialist- Columbia, MO - This position will provide support to the Volunteer – Community Outreach Department. It will be the responsibility of the Volunteer Recruitment Specialist to seek volunteers through new community partnerships, corporate giving programs, and individuals wishing to donate their time to the National MS Society. The volunteers will be utilized for Walk MS, Challenge Walk MS, Bike MS, as well as special project volunteers.
Volunteer Recruitment Specialist – St. Louis, MO - This position will provide support to the Volunteer – Community Outreach Department. It will be the responsibility of the Volunteer Recruitment Specialist to seek volunteers through new community partnerships, corporate giving programs, and individuals wishing to donate their time to the National MS Society. The volunteers will be utilized for Walk MS, Challenge Walk MS, Bike MS, as well as special project volunteers.
