PEER SUPPORT

Looking for someone who understands what it’s like to live with multiple sclerosis? Are you a family member of someone living with MS and want someone to talk to about your loved one’s MS? Our peer support program is beneficial to individuals facing challenging circumstances in their lives. This program offers support to people with MS and their families.

Our Chapter has trained peer support volunteers to offer information, companionship, emotional support, and encouragement via the telephone to peers affected by MS. They can help you deal with changes brought about by MS; reduce your feeling of isolation; reduce your anxiety; and expand your social connections; and provide you with new coping strategies and information.

To be paired with a peer support volunteer, call the Chapter at 299-4136 or
1-800-344-4867.

CARE GIVER SUPPORT

The Central North Carolina Chapter is committed to supporting both people with MS and their caregivers. We know that Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects the entire family. The Chapter offers emotional support and respite to caregivers. We offer short term respite for caregivers and can also connect you to other community service providers as appropriate. The chapter is committed to helping caregivers get their emotional needs met. We can make community counseling referrals and offer an in home care management program that is designed to help people with MS and their caregivers. If you are interested in any of these services, please contact Jessica Thomas, MSW at 336-299-4136 or jessica.thomas@ncc.nmss.org.

SELF HELP GROUPS

Self-help groups are located throughout our Chapter area to provide you with a place to go and talk with others and learn more about MS.

Groups meet regularly for educational and social purposes, allowing members to express feelings and provide support to one another. Members share a belief that positive personal change can happen through individual effort with the support of others.

The Society recognizes the valuable role self-help groups can play in addressing the informational, emotional, and social support needs of our members.

We have women’s, men’s, and co-ed groups. For more information about our groups, please contact the Chapter at 336-299-4136.
