Harris Teeter launches drug discounts

The Matthews-based supermarket chain is offering customers a 90-day supply of more than 300 generic prescription drugs for $9.99.Customers must pay $4.95 to join the company’s generic-prescription savings club for one year.The plan doesn’t apply if a customer’s prescription is covered by insurance.
Other chain retailers with pharmacies, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) and Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT), have offered similar discounts on generic medicines.
Matthews-based Harris Teeter has 177 stores in the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and Washington, D.C.
It is a division of Charlotte-based Ruddick Corp. (NYSE:RDK).
