About the Ride

Bike MS: Carolinas Biketober Challenge 2009 is a two-day fundraising bike ride organized by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of The National MS Society. This ride is one of longest standing non-profit events of its kind in the Carolinas with an average of 1,500 cyclists, 400 volunteers and countless supporters and spectators. In 2008 we collectively raised over $1 million in helping to create a world free of MS. In 2009 we are striving to raise $1.25 million.

Unable to ride? You can still enjoy all that Bike MS has to offer! It takes over 300 dedicated volunteers to support a successful Bike MS event. If you are interested  in volunteering, check out our opportunities!

Can't be at the ride? You can still join the movement to create a world free of MS by fundraising through our online Virtual Cyclist Program. Just register (you can participate individually or join a team) and select the "Virtual Cyclist" option. Virtual Cyclists can be members of teams, earn fundraising prizes and become top fundraisers. While there is no fundraising requirement for Virtual Cyclists, we encourage the collection of at least $100 or more.

Your registration fee (plus $200 in collected donations) includes a custom event t-shirt, 5 catered meals, rest stops every 8-12 miles, bike mechanics, medical staff, police support, live entertainment, and much, much more plus a load of fun at every turn. This 2-day ride caters to cyclists of all ability levels; whether you’re a weekend warrior, a recreational cyclist, or a hard core roadie, this ride is for you!

Experience the Ride

The 2009 ride will once again feature a destination century route on Day1, taking cyclists through the scenic rolling hills from Rock Hill, SC to Greenville, SC. Day 1 and Day 2 will both feature a variety of rally route options ranging from a short 20 mile loop to a longer 80 mile scenic route. Overnight headquarters will be at the award winning ball park, The Greenville Drive in beautiful downtown Greenville where nightlife, restaurants, and funky galleries abound.

Our 7,400 clients and their loved ones are counting on you to ride, provide, create awareness, and inspire. Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between brain and body and stops people from moving. We believe that moving is not just something you can or can't do, but that moving forward is who we are. Just by being here, you are connected to the potential, the hope, and the momentum of the movement toward a world free of MS. With the help of people like you, the National MS Society addresses the challenges of each person whose life is affected by MS and helps them stay connected to this great big moving world.

Whether pedaling your bike, raising funds, or volunteering, Bike MS is truly …human powered!
