Aside from the stress that arises in daily life for everyone, MS creates its own emotionally taxing predicaments, not the least of which is dealing with the unpredictable course of this disease.
The first thing to know is that stress can make any of us feel worse, whether by upsetting our stomachs or knotting our neck muscles. Many people with MS say they experience more symptoms during stressful times. When the stress abates, their symptoms seem less troubling or less severe. Therefore, learning to relax is essential.
But, relaxation isn't something you just decide to do. People have to learn to relax. You will need to discover what works for you, and you'll need to practice.
Whether it is a retreat by the sea or a camp in the foothills, we offer programs for families to come together and relax.
Camp Carefree - April 30 - May 2, 2010
Join other families living with MS from North and South Carolina for a fun-filled weekend on a rustic 300 acre farm 40 minutes north of Greensboro. This weekend is a family retreat to meet new people or renew old friendships.
The Camp is accessible and offers heated and air conditioned facilities along with indoor plumbing! Camp Carefree offers both family style and single/double occupancy sleeping arrangements. Each “family room” accommodates between 4 - 8 people, is located in a cabin with several family rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Private rooms are reserved for those requiring the assistance of a professional caregiver and for couples. Bathrooms are also shared. The cost of camp is $25.00 per person (under 12 free) which includes all meals and lodging for the entire weekend.
Come enjoy horseback riding at the indoor riding area, arts and crafts, separate adult and children activities, and a theme party on Saturday night. 2010's theme party is CAREFREE GOES TO THE BIG APPLE!
Packets can be downloaded from the website or sent from the office beginning January 30, 2010!
