2008 Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipients - Florence Area

Walter Priece Walter Priece volunteered for the bike ride for the first time when the overnight was in Darlington in 2006. Walter organized fellow employees from Target to come to the event and help at the beverage trucks. He brought a group of adults and children and his now fiancé, Ebony Graham. This group worked so hard and would always offer assistance. In 2007, his group volunteered at the Bike Ride Start/Finish site in Myrtle Beach and again were phenomenal - always willing to volunteer where needed. Walter was asked to serve in more of a leadership capacity at the 2008 bike ride in Greenville and this year he is serving on the Start/Finish Planning Committee for the 2009 bike ride in October. And if this isn’t enough, Walter drove from Florence to Columbia this past October to volunteer for What a Difference a Day Makes! MS Service Day. Walter gave up a precious Saturday to help a family living with MS clean out and organize their storage shed.
Ebony Graham Ebony Graham volunteered for the first time at the 2006 overnight in Darlington with her then fiancé, Walter Priece. Ebony worked tirelessly helping with the beverage trucks and any other areas that needed assistance. In 2007, she volunteered at the Bike Ride Start/Finish site in Myrtle Beach and once again was always willing to volunteer where needed. Ebony, along with her fiancé Walter, was asked to serve in more of a leadership capacity at the 2008 bike ride in Greenville and this year she is serving on the Start/Finish Planning Committee for the 2009 bike ride in October.

The Pee Dee Street Riders have been contributing to the MS Society since 1995. Their community event, the Run to the Sun Car Show, now in its 21st year, has grown from a family affair to the involvement of the entire community. The car show, which was just held in Myrtle Beach March 19th-21st, had approximately 2,500 cars entered and is touted as one of the largest car shows in the Southeastern United States. Proceeds from the car show benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the National MS Society. Fourteen years ago, the Pee Dee Street Rodders named the National MS Society as one of the beneficiaries of the proceeds raised from the Run to the Sun Car Show. In 1995, the Pee Dee Street Rodders presented the MS Society with a check for $1,000 and in 2008 the proceeds totaled $39,000!  Since 1995, the Pee Dee Street Rodders have raised over $800,000 and have donated $371,000 to the National MS Society!  And…Fred Turner, who has been the driving force of the group, was inducted into the National MS Society Hall of Fame in 2006.
