The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to end the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. Founded in 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society supports more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and furthers more MS advocacy efforts than any other organization in the world.The Eastern North Carolina Chapter represents an estimated 4,700 people with MS, their families, care partners and health care professionals.

Our chapter programs team is nationally recognized for excellence in programs and advocacy, with services including:
- Information and referral assistance provided by highly trained professionals in the Information and Resource Center, and follow-up provided in the chapter by three professional social workers
- Educational programs on a wide range of subjects from research, treatments, symptom management and psychosocial issues
- Direct services including respite care, equipment loans, home and vehicle modifications and emergency assistance for people with MS
- Reach Out: Services to Maintain Independence care management program provides trained social workers for in-home consultations and resource brokering
- Outreach and education to health care professionals throughout the chapter area
- Individualized follow-up for people who are recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
- Wellness programs to help people with MS lead active and fulfilling lives
- An advocacy program to address issues like access to health care, disability rights, and government funding of biomedical research
- Celebrating families with outings, camps, and education for children

- Bike MS - Ride 30, 75, or 100 miles each day of our two day cycling event in New Bern, NC. This year's ride will take place September 11-12. Join us for the ride of your life!
- Walk MS - Walk between 1 and 5 miles at our annual Walk MS event in your community. Walk MS is the celebration of communities coming together to create a world free of multiple sclerosis. This year's fundraising goal is $800,000. Register today and sign up for our exclusive Gold Club!
- Celebrate the health sciences with some of North Carolina's most philanthropic companies and individuals at our annual Dinner of Champions.
- The Women Against MS Leadership Luncheon features a dynamic keynote speaker and the Triangle's most influential women united to create a world free of MS.
