Triangle Walk MS Celebrates Exceptional Turnout
The Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is excited to announce over 5,000 residents flooded the RBC Center for this year’s Triangle Walk MS on April 25. Walk MS, presented by EMD Serono Pfizer, is an opportunity for individuals to support the estimated 4,600 individuals who are living with multiple sclerosis in eastern North Carolina. The event’s fundraising goal is $830,000 and the fundraising deadline is May 18.
“The turnout of supporters was fantastic,” says Elizabeth Jones, Walk MS coordinator for the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “We appreciate the efforts of everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success, and we look forward to seeing continued fundraising efforts push us closer to our goal.”
Sixty percent of all the funds raised will go toward programs, services and advocacy for people living with MS in eastern North Carolina, and 40 percent supports national research to find the cause and cure of MS.
“The Society’s services are needed now more than ever, and it’s inspiring to see the community come together to bring help and hope to those living with MS,” says Jones. “However, the hard work is not over yet. We encourage everyone to make their donation by May 18.”
In addition to the one, three and five mile walks, the event featured live entertainment, food vendors, a tailgating area and kids’ activities. High fundraisers and event sponsors will enjoy a Walk MS post-event party on June 14. "At Pfizer we strive to positively impact the health of people around the world,” says Herman Genderson, district business manager for presenting sponsor Pfizer’s MS-Epilepsy division. “We understand how challenging life can be for those diagnosed with relapsing MS. We are very proud to be the 2009 Presenting Sponsor for Triangle Walk MS. Our sponsorship, in addition to our access programs for patients, is another way we can support those with a diagnosis of relapsing MS."
Triangle Walk MS is one of five Walk MS events in eastern North Carolina. Fayetteville Walk MS and Plymouth Walk MS were held on April 4, and registration is still open for the May 2 Greenville and Wilmington walks.
