Position Announcement
Eastern North Carolina Director of Development

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) is seeking a Director of Development for its Eastern North Carolina Chapter. This position is responsible for the successful development and implementation of the chapter’s comprehensive fundraising program.

ORGANIZATION
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the oldest and largest nonprofit MS organization and the only voluntary health organization in the U.S. supporting international MS research. The Society supports more MS research and serves more people with MS than any other organization in the world. The Eastern North Carolina chapter funds local programs and services for people with MS and their families in our region, and supports the Society’s research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. The Chapter serves over 4,800 people with MS and their families, caregivers and healthcare providers. The Chapter has a $2.9 million annual budget and is headquartered in Raleigh, NC. There are 14 professionals on staff and 27 members of the Board of Trustees. PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
We are seeking a leader to engage and inspire staff, donors, and volunteers in a collaborative effort to proactively drive all aspects of our fundraising program. Key performance outcomes expected of our Director of Development include:
• Focus on revenue growth and maintain the momentum in growth experienced by the Chapter. Demonstrate the experience and vision to expand the Chapter’s financial base while thriving in this special event focused organization. Engage the time and talents of all stakeholders towards the maximization of the Chapter’s core special events, and demonstrate a personal ability in donor and corporate development.
• Drive strategic planning and develop incremental steps to achieve mid and long range revenue goals.
• Foster integrity, a sense of teamwork and maintain a positive working environment with an empowering management style. Engage, inspire and manage highly motivated four person development staff to continue their outstanding work and develop their leadership skills.
• Provide effective oversight of all fundraising activities including mass market events, individual donor gifts, planned giving, foundations, and corporate relations and sponsorship. Ensure chapter meets or exceeds all fundraising goals.
• Prepare, monitor and maintain chapters fund raising budgets and operational plan.
• Build strong relationships with donor base throughout the Chapter territory. Foster a spirit of collaboration among all stakeholder groups. Enhance awareness of the Society’s mission and attract strong volunteer leadership.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the NMSS and a passion for serving persons with disabilities.

CANDIDATE QUALITIES
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following experience, skills, and personal attributes:
1) Significant successful leadership, sales/marketing and management experience with a history of job growth and advancement; BA Degree; non-profit experience preferred;
2) A successful track record in building and managing a high performing team, effective delegation, and creating a workplace environment of trust, creativity, and accountability;
3) Demonstrate ability to proactively drive revenue growth by securing gifts and contributions from individuals and corporations;
4) Experience in marketing and managing large-scale special events. Major gifts experience and success desirable;
5) Superior communication skills across a broad range of constituent groups.
