Orange Man Leads MS Awareness Week Festivities
Get ready eastern North Carolina. Orange Man is coming to town. Governor Bev Purdue has declared March 2-8 MS Awareness Week in the state of North Carolina, and Orange Man is leading residents in the movement to create a world free of MS. However, people do not need to wait until March 2 to meet Orange Man – his appearances began February 20.
Orange Man is the essence of movement. He symbolizes what many of us take for granted, which eludes those with multiple sclerosis. The Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society uses him as their bold statement of protest against MS’s effects on movement, conveying the message that we will not allow multiple sclerosis to stop people from moving. Residents can find Orange Man in the places they visit every day, from the gym, restaurants and shopping centers to sporting and local events.
“MS is the number one disabling disease among young adults,” says Kaye Gooch, vice president of programs and services for the Eastern NC Chapter. “Orange Man is a powerful symbol of the movement we take for granted. He raises awareness of MS’s effects and reminds us that together, we are stronger.”
Orange Man is continually in motion throughout the area conveying the National MS Society’s message of making sure MS doesn’t stop people from moving. That message is further expressed through the color orange, which suggests the urgency and energy of movement.
“Orange Man is the leader of our movement to create a world free of MS,” says Gooch. “We encourage everyone to join the movement and make their unique mark against MS. MS Awareness Week is about motivating the millions of people who want to do something about MS now.”
