NEW POLICY:
Volunteers filling high-level positions including, but not limited to medics, SAGs, hams, supply truck drivers, and registration are required to have an annual background check. If the volunteer position requires driving on behalf of the National MS Society, the individual will also be required to have a motor vehicle check and provide proof of personal automobile insurance and a copy of his/her valid driver’s license. In order to protect the privacy of our volunteers, the Society has established a secure, online process for these background checks.
Volunteers who have served in a high-level volunteer position with the Society within the past three years (2006–July 2009) will not be required to adhere to these policies unless National MS Society staff becomes aware of questionable activity. However, these “grandfathered” volunteers are strongly encouraged to submit the appropriate checks to ensure their personal safety and the safety of our participants.
