Women on the Move Luncheon Promotes Unique Venue on Dogwood Hills Farm in Locust, NJ

MS Fundraising Luncheon “moves” to Home of William and Victoria Marraccini

Oakhurst, NJ –  On September 22, William and Victoria Marraccini will open the doors of their elegant home in Locust, New Jersey to 300 men and women from across north and central New Jersey for the 2009 Women on the Move "Celebration of Hope.” The luncheon raises money for National MS Society’s New Jersey Metro Chapter that serves 14 counties in New Jersey, where it is estimated that almost 10-thousand people have MS, 75-percent of which are women.

William Marraccini was diagnosed with MS a decade ago and explains why he and Victoria chose to host the event.

“A cure,” says Marraccini. “In the ten years since my diagnosis, several new treatments have emerged, all of which reduced the progression of this unpredictable and devastating disease, but none of which has had the ability to stop the progression. That is the true terror of MS; its uncertainty. But unlike many other devastating diseases where research has produced little, we have progress. We have medical advancement. We have treatments developing. We have hope. This lunch is about celebrating that progress and completing the work.”

Those who attend this year’s luncheon can expect breathtaking views of the 16-acre farm trimmed with dogwoods in a lovely pastoral setting with horses and goats. The event allows guests to network and socialize while engaging in silent and live auctions featuring exquisite items such as a Peter Duffy cashmere cape trimmed in fox fur (valued at $1500), golf outings at Due Process Stable Golf Course in Colts Neck and Trump National in Bedminster, as well as 5 days/4 nights in Napa, California complete with air and limousine transportation. Raffle tickets will be for sale for $10 a piece for a $2000 shopping spree at Hamilton Jewelers, Coco Pari, Garmany, and Tiffany and Co.

Tindra Lanfrank has chaired the event for the past seven years and says this year is truly going to be the best yet.

“I can’t think of a better setting for this elegant event. Our theme is ‘Hamptons Chic’ which means come dressed in your flip flops and jewels and get ready to have fun,” says Lanfrank. “This disease impacts so many people, especially women and now more and more children. We have to do something to make a difference. This is my way of helping and I hope you will join me.”

16-year old Tony Fabbri and his friend Kyle Maccia will be speaking at the luncheon to raise awareness of the rising number of children diagnosed with MS. Both teens are living with MS and with the help of their families and doctors are coping with the disease.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system for which there is no cure. It interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and stops people from moving. MS is becoming more prominent in women and children.

This year’s event ambassador is Chris Wragge of CBS News and our special guest is Dr. Robi Ludwig, TV host, psychotherapist and author. Robi has a close personal friend living with MS and was inspired to design the “believe pendant” necklace which will be available for sale at the Women On The Move luncheon.

The goal of this year’s Women on the Move fundraiser is to raise more than $100,000.

About Women on the Move
The MS Women on the Move luncheon is an educational and fundraising event that creates an inspiring, motivational and empowering environment. The event creates a social environment for likeminded people to gather, learn about multiple sclerosis, and raise funds to help end MS. While men are always welcome at the luncheons, the event was founded by women who wanted to come together in bringing us closer to a world free of MS. Two thirds of people living with MS are women, and women often are care providers. The MS Women on the Move luncheon creates an opportunity to empower each other to create a better future for those living with MS.

About MS
Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.

About the National MS Society
The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn't.

We mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS through our 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.
