Wild Women of the Wind Compete in Air Race Classic While Raising Funds for MS
On June 23rd, Minnetta Gardinier, a former National MS Society researcher will be taking off on a cross-country air race from Denver, CO (APA) to Atlantic, IA (AIO) via a winding route through the south central U.S. before it turns northward (June 23-26, 2009). It’s the annual cross country all women pilots air race now known as the Air Race Classic (once known as the “Powder Puff Derby”). This year, marks the 80th anniversary of the first Air Derby. Gardinier will be flying this race again with her co-pilot, Linda Moody, an architect living and working in Massachusetts. They are flying a 1978 Cessna Cardinal Classic that Gardinier co-owns with Dan Eberl (based at Iowa City).
Air racers usually seek sponsorships to cover their race costs much like car racers. They are again putting a different spin on this adventure and are reaching out to potential sponsors who might consider supporting them to also raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society www.wildwomenofthewind.iowa99s.org. For details, please see the attached sponsorship letter and visit our web site.
After last year’s race, 100% of their private sponsorships was donated to the North Central States Chapter - $3,000. So far, they have about $1,500 collected, and sponsorships are continuing to come in.
They are again flying in support of the National MS Society. This year, they will be landing in ATLANTIC, IOWA at the race terminus! They plan to arrive by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26 and will be staying in Atlantic until Monday, June 29. Make plans to welcome Gardinier and Moody in Atlantic, Iowa, after they finish the race!
