When a person with MS needs a home modification, eligibility for assistance must be determined. The individual must be registered with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter. A waiver of responsibility must be filled out, and include a confirmation of their diagnosis. The individual must also have a doctor’s prescription, and a financial assistance application (completed within the past 2 years.) on file.
Types of home modifications:
- Grab bars
- Widening doors
- Lowering or raising a sink, vanity or counter top
- Modifying a bathroom or shower
- Ramps and lifts
- Repair of installation of railings
