The National MS Society, Long Island Chapter has a dedicated history of being involved in advocacy on a local level.
MS Action Day
Wednesday, April 1, 2009
10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
State Capitol Building
Albany, New York
Every spring chapter staff, members, friends and family spend a day at the New York State Capitol building in Albany, New York, voicing healthcare-related issues and policies affecting people living with MS in our state. Many legislators and representatives stop by to show their support and meet their constituents.
Together, we will:
- raise awareness for MS issues
- share our personal stories
- create legislative changes that benefit people living with MS
Make Your Voice Heard
Take Action on hot issues and let your local representatives know that MS activists care about federal state and local policies that affect the lives of people with MS. Not sure what to say or how to say it? Take a look at these samples of how to contact community leaders. Your voice counts!
Other ongoing Long Island Chapter advocacy issues:
- long-term care services for people with MS and other disabilities
- health care coverage issues
- basic needs of families living with MS, such as energy assistance for cooling costs, affordable and accessible housing and accessible transportation
