NEW YORK, NY- The New York City Chapter of the National MS Society will host Climb to the Top on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 6:30 a.m. at the Top of the Rock™ Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center. This unique charity stair climb is expected to draw approximately 1,000 participants who will climb 66 floors to Rockefeller Center’s historic observation deck. The event will help raise awareness and vital funds in support of MS research and programs and services for people living with MS, their friends and families.
Climb to the Top will also kick off MS Awareness Week, which will begin on March 2. The chapter’s goal is to raise $250,000 at this inaugural event. Climb to the Top is sponsored by Metro Sports New York, Financial Times and ReceptaSign.
“We are extremely excited to host such a unique event in one of New York City’s famed landmarks! Climb to the Top participants will have the opportunity to experience a classic Manhattan moment at the Top of the Rock™ while helping to create a world free of MS. This event is destined to be enormously successful and we hope people will be inspired to join the movement and make their mark on our chapter’s history by being part of the very first Climb event,” said Ruth Brenner, president of the NYC Chapter.
“Tishman Speyer is pleased to open the stairways to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck for the first time for such a worthy cause,” said Mike Norton, managing director of Global Property Management of Tishman Speyer. “We look forward to joining the movement toward a world free of MS.”

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and it stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.5 million worldwide.
