The National MS Society (NMSS) Buffalo, NY office has an exciting opportunity for a program and services professional. The Programs & Services / Office Manager will be responsible for providing a variety of programs and support services to people with MS and their families in the Buffalo area. This individual will act as a representative of the Upstate New York Chapter for such programs and services as client contacts, advocacy, self-help groups, community education, program development, information and referral, facilitating access to services already in the community and collaborating with other community agencies to fill gaps in service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:  Master’s degree in Social Work, two years supervisory experience.

Some of the major functions include:

Client Services

  • Provide client contacts, advocacy, information and referral, in the multi-county area.
  • Facilitate development of peer support and/or self-help groups.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in all areas of record keeping.
  • Monitor current knowledge about multiple sclerosis and its effects on the individual and the family.
  • Provide educational opportunities for persons with MS, their families, caregivers, health care professionals and the general public.

Public Education

  • Provide education programs and presentations to people with MS, their families, health care providers and the community.
  • Represent the Upstate New York Chapter and the NMSS at appropriate public forums, conferences and workshops.

Community Outreach

  • Submit articles for publication in the Chapter newsletter.
  • Participate in multi-county area MS committees as appropriate.
  • Provide recruitment, training and supervision of program staff and volunteers.

SKILLS

  • Ability to demonstrate organization and flexibility in handling multiple tasks and setting priorities.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with people with MS, the public and Chapter staff.
  • Self-motivational and organizational skills are essential in this branch office.
  • Experience and demonstrated achievement in program development and administration, community leadership, and volunteer organization.
