Donate

The Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is supported by private donations, corporate and foundation giving and by promoting quality special events.  Many people choose to donate in honor of or in memory of another individual.  Others decide to give through workplace giving.  Still others choose to make a planned gift.  All of these vehicles serve people with MS and also allow us to continue research into the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis.

Donor Solicitation Best Practices
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society holds ourselves and our fundraising practices to the highest fundraising standards possible. Rest assured that any donation you make to support the work of the National MS Society, including events like Walk MS and Bike MS, is devoted to funding research and local programs. Our volunteers who fundraise for the MS cause employ the same ethical fundraising standards of the Society and do not attempt to pressure prospective donors. They also provide them with multi-opportunities of giving directly to the Society, where they will receive a formal acknowledgment of their donation.

If you have any concerns about fraudulent solicitations, please contact your local law enforcement agency and the Ohio Attorney General’s office at 614-466-3181 (be sure to ask for an investigator).

Charitable Gift Annuities Rates Decreasing February 1, 2009
Due to the current economic conditions, The American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA) board voted to reduce its suggested maximum gift annuity rates. The reduction is for new charitable gift annuities only and will not affect existing annuities. For current gift annuitants, the rates contracted when the annuity was created are guaranteed for life.

The economic climate has reduced the amount charities are abl to earn when they invest the annuities. The change was also motivated in part by the fact that federal interest rates are now slo low that single people under the age of 58 and couples aged 65 or younger no longer qualify for gift annuities under federal laws used to determine donors' eligibility. In addition, the new rates will be based on an investment return assumption of 5.25%, rather than the current 5.75%.

For donors ages 60-83, the reduction in immediate charitable gift annuity rates varies from .4 to .7 percent. For the oldest donors, 90+, the reduction will be the greatest: full 1.0% below the current cap of 10.5% to 9.5%.

Please note however, that even after the rate reduction, charitable gift annuities' rates are considerably higher than that of certificates of deposit.

If you have questions about charitable gift annuities or the upcoming changes, contact Janet Kramer at 800-667-7131.

Auto Donation Program
The Ohio Buckeye Chapter is partnering with other Society chapters in an auto donation program called AUTOS-4-MS.

Donating your vehicle is easy. You can either call 877-672-8864 or visit the AUTOS-4-MS website. Once you have provided information about the vehicle you wish to donate, you will be asked to fax the title and arrangements are made to have the vehicle towed. Donated vehicles are sold at auction and 100% of the proceeds are given to the National MS Society.
