Couples who are living with MS often find it difficult to make their relationship a priority. These workshops are designed to address the needs of couples living with MS who experience these and other issues by teaching the following: effective communication and listening skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and ways to break old patterns and manage relationships proactively.
Relationship Matters Workshop
The Eight Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction Workshop is designed so that both partners learn to use a common language for communicating, resolving conflicts and solving problems. The purpose of the program is to enable partners to identify areas of concern, practice ways to express their feelings about those concerns using a common set of skills, and then work together to address those challenges at home. In short, we give them tools, show them how to use them, offer time to practice using them, and send them home with ideas about how and when to use their new tools.
Couples who participate in the Eight Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction Workshop will:
Recognize communication danger signs and blocks
Understand their natural style of communication, as well as other styles
Develop a plan for de-escalating arguments and peacefully resolving conflict
Use effective communication skills for listening and speaking
Establish a way to solve problems that works for everyone
Manage their relationship proactively
Discuss MS challenges and concerns using these skills
Couples coming together for support and education will find they are not alone in their efforts to find a place for MS in their relationships.
