Women Against Multiple Sclerosis (WAMS) is a highly visible and inspiring event designed to raise awareness. Funds from the luncheon benefit local MS programs and services, as well as the national research effort to find the cause and cure for MS. The 2009 WAMS luncheon was be held on Wednesday, April 8 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, located at 1700 NE 63rd Street in Oklahoma City.  

Approximately 400,000 Americans acknowledge having MS, and approximately two-thirds of them are women. The Oklahoma Chapter has 3,100 registered clients and 73% of those are women.  

OKE WAMS ButterflyGuest speaker for the event was Melanie Lawson, News Anchor for ABC13 in Houston. An Emmy-winning reporter, Ms. Lawson’s dedication to presenting balanced, educational news has made her a staple in the Houston community. She is involved in many philanthropic activities and community organizations, including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Volunteer Houston.
