Take The Plunge with Aquatic Exercise

take the plungeAquatics - exercise in water - is often recommended because it provides optimal exercise conditions for the person with MS. Water reduces the effects of gravity, and the buoyancy or weightlessness that occurs in water helps a person with weakened limbs attain a greater range of motion. In addition, chest-high water can provide support, enabling many persons with MS to stand and maintain balance for exercises with less effort than on land. The resistance that water provides can also be utilized for purposes of muscle strengthening. The class is designed for anyone living with multiple sclerosis and a coach/helper if needed. A confirmation letter will be mailed to all exercise participants along with a waiver of responsibility that will need to be completed prior to your first class. Greater Scranton YMCA’s “cool pool” is kept at 82°. Hydraulic chair is available. Classes are conducted in the shallow end that measures 3’6” to 5’
