This summer, more than 7,000 cyclists will ride the roads in South Jersey to create a world free of MS. That means riding in groups, passing and other bike-handling skills will be in high demand. Take your safety personally.

Utilize these great resources to help prepare you to ride safely Bike MS weekend.

- Riding in dark and/or rainy conditions
Good practices in cycling
- Train before the ride. A well trained cyclist is a safer cyclist!
- Ride predictably
- Cross railroads/grooved surfaces at a right angle
- Make eye contact with drivers when turning
- When you hear someone say “On Your Left” ride steadily and don’t look back
- When stopping use the appropriate signals and, pull completely off the road
- Watch out for road hazards, and point them out to other cyclists
- When riding next to parked cars, look for opening doors
- Pace lines can be dangerous. Never ride in a pace line with cyclists if you are not accustomed to their riding patterns.

Bike MS stresses the importance of each cyclist’s responsibility to educate themselves and follow State Laws. Please visit “Biking in New Jersey” for an overview on the state’s cycling regulations.

Team Safety Awareness Award
How others view your team matters! Maintain your team’s positive image and be a leader when it comes to demonstrating safe, courteous behavior. This prestigious award will be given to all teams that have at least 25% of team members participating in the Group Riding Skills course, distribute safety messages via e-mail or newsletter to their team members, hold training rides that review safe cycling procedures and display safe riding behavior during the Ride weekend. Group Riding Skills
Group riding takes practice. Riding with other cyclists all around you may cause you to feel trapped. Relax. It is most important to create your own safety zone. This may vary depending on the speed and ability level of the people you are with, so be flexible. Click here to learn more about group riding.
