► What kind of books should I read?
The books you read can be about anything that interests you: sports, mysteries, etc. All the books you read should be at your reading level.
► Can I read a book that I have already read?
We would prefer if you read something new. If you are reading a book now, count that when you finish it.
► What do I do if I need another sponsor list or book list?
Use a separate sheet of paper and send it in with your READaTHON kit. Or ask your parents to help you download the forms.
► KINDERGARDENS/FIRST GRADES - I can’t read by myself. How can I participate in the READaTHON?
A parent/guardian, brother or sister can help you read. If a sibling is also participating in the READaTHON and reads aloud to a youngster, both may count the book.
► How do you know I read the books?
The National MS Society trust you! Your parents will also sign the book list and that means that they also trust that you have read the books.
► Will my parents get information about the READaTHON?
Yes, a letter to your parents will be included in the official kit.
► Do Comic Books and Magazines count?
We would prefer that you read books. Books have more words than pictures and magazines do not count as books.
► May I read in other languages?
You may read in any language you choose.
► How many books should I read?
As many as you wish.
► How long should the books be?
Please read books at your reading level. If you are reading a longer book than usual, then speak to your teacher or parent/guardian and decide how many chapters will equal one book.
► Where do I get the books?
From home, your school or your local library.
► Who should I ask to be my sponsor?
Go to people you know: parents, friends, neighbors, relatives. Never ask strangers!
► Can I sponsor myself?
You can sponsor yourself but if you also ask other people to sponsor you, you will be able to raise more money for people with MS.
► How many sponsors should I get?
As many as you wish.
► How much should a sponsor pledge?
Whatever they wish. They can sponsor on a per book or give a flat rate. It is a good idea to let your sponsor know how many books you are planning to read.
► How is the money used?
The money raised through the MS READaTHON will go towards research and providing services to people who have MS.
