Effect of robot-assisted training on foot drop in multiple sclerosis

Neurologists at the Providence VA Medical Center and Brown University are currently conducting a study to examine whether foot drop and abnormal walking can be corrected using new robot-assisted devices designed and developed at MIT and in Zurich, Switzerland. Participants who qualify for the study will receive either ankle robot training alone or in combination with a motorized, robot-assisted treadmill. There is no charge to participate in the study. Patients must have foot drop and be able to walk 25 ft. without a cane or other assistive device. You do not have to be a veteran to participate. For further information, please contact Doug at (401) 273-7100 ext. 5918.

Now Enrolling: Clinical trials in MS under the direction of Syed Rizvi, M.D., at The Neurology Foundation, Inc.:

CARE-MSSM II- a phase III study comparing two annual cycles of intravenous alemtuzumab to three-times weekly subcutaneous interferon beta-1a in patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis who have relapsed on prior therapy. Onset of MS symptoms must be less than 10 years. You must have had at least one relapse within the last 12 months and at least 2 relapses in the last 2 years.

Oracle Study- a phase III research study of oral investigational drug in subjects with a first clinical event at high risk of converting to multiple sclerosis. This study compares 2 different doses of investigational drug to placebo. The first clinical event must have occurred within 75 days of study enrollment.

For further information on these studies please call Brigid Crabtree, R.N., at 401.444.3039 or Kim Perez, R.N., at 401.444.7876.
