CLAY WALKER TO BE HONORED AT DINNER OF MS CHAMPIONS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (April 2, 2009) – Country music singer and songwriter Clay Walker will receive the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s highest honor, the MS Hope Award, for outstanding civic and community service at this year’s Dinner of MS Champions. The event on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, will be held at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville from 6pm to 9pm. “Clay Walker is committed to providing education about MS and funding research toward a cure,” said Mid South Chapter President Jim Ward. “His dedication is essential to our mission - to end MS.”
Walker was diagnosed with MS in 1996. He established the “Band Against MS” Foundation to raise awareness and support MS research around the country.
“Clay puts the focus on getting the most out of everything he can do, rather than dwell on what he can’t do. His commitment to humanitarian endeavors demonstrates his selflessness and dedication to others and we want to lead the effort to recognize his many accomplishments in the fight against MS,” adds Ward.
The MS Dinner of Champions honors a community activist each year, celebrating their efforts to end the devastating effects of MS. All proceeds will go towards funding for local client programs and national research focused on finding the cause and cure for MS.
The National MS Society is the only national voluntary health agency in the United States supporting worldwide research to fund the cause of, a cure for and a means of preventing MS, as well as more effective treatments to alleviate its symptoms. Locally, the Mid South Chapter serves over 7,200 people with MS. Nationally, there are more than 400,000 people diagnosed with MS.
