Start a Team!

Getting Started

What is a team?
A team consists of a captain and at least three additional team members.Teams are generally classified as Corporate (meaning that they are representing a company or organization) or Friends and Family. However, we encourage all teams to be inclusive and recruit from many areas. Some of our best Corporate teams consist of company members and their families and friends.
How do I create a team?
The team captain should register first by choosing to CREATE a team. When prompted, the team captain enters the team name. When team members subsequently register, they choose to JOIN a team, selecting the team name from the searchable list. There is no charge to create a team, though each team member is encouraged to fundraise.
Are you ready to get started?
Once you are registered, you can create a team webpage, send out team recruitment emails, and most importantly, begin your fundraising efforts!

Need Help?
Let us assist you in developing and growing your team! Set a meeting with Carrie Tessier at carrie.tessier@msmidsouth.org or Donna Noelker at donna.noelker@msmidsouth.org to discuss your team goals and to provide you with creative recruitment and fundraising ideas. We are also available to speak to groups of potential and/or returning teams about multiple sclerosis, Walk MS, the mission of the National MS Society, and the important role teams play in helping us achieve our mission.

Team Essentials

Team Fundraising
Monies raised by individuals on a team combine to make that team’s fundraising total. Teams may also hold fundraisers and allocate the earnings across team members or apply it to the team (and not individual’s) total.
Team FUN!
The best part of forming or joining a team is the camaraderie and spirit that develops among team members. Make your team the envy of others by taking these easy steps:
Participate in Team Week: Team Week is five days of fun to promote your team’s recruitment and fundraising efforts. We’ll provide you with creative ideas and emails and give you the support and encouragement (including prizes) you need to step it up.
Organize team gatherings: The best teams often socialize together. Plan a team fundraiser or just get together before the event and share some laughs.
Make your team seen in Team Village: You’ve assembled your team, solicited donations, and now it’s Walk day. Team Village is a place teams can assemble to enjoy the event, show their spirit, and continue their camaraderie. Teams are invited to put up tents, hang banners, and decorate the area.
Team Goals
Don't forget to set aggressive recruitment and fundraising goals for your team. Some ways to come up with your team goals include setting a per member goal, increasing the team's previous year's results by a percentage, and aiming to be one of the Top 10 teams (or even #1!).
