Registration for Bike MS: Valero 2009 Alamo Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B, is currently available for $40. The upcoming ride, to be held Oct. 3 – 4, 2009, will offer picturesque scenery for families, teams and individuals raising awareness for multiple sclerosis (MS). The registration fee will double on June 1 so register now!

With a goal to raise more than $2 million to support research to find the cause of and a cure for MS and fund programs, the Lone Star Chapter anticipates more than 3,500 cyclists will register for the family-friendly event. Cyclists will begin their journey at the San Antonio Alamodome on Saturday, Oct. 3 and travel through the picturesque Texas Hill Country, selecting to participate for one or two days of the weekend ride. After an overnight stay at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels, cyclists will return to San Antonio on Sunday, Oct. 4. Additional route highlights include Texas historical landmarks, The Alamo and Fort Sam Houston, as well as lunch stops in Seguin at Texas Lutheran University and LaVernia.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.5 million worldwide.
