Couples Living with MS

The Lone Star Chapter is part of an exciting program called “Relationship Matters: A Program for Couples Living with MS.”
 

Relationship Matters helps couples learn and apply skills to deal with MS using the following classes: 

  1. Communications and Conflict Resolution: Facing Opportunities and Challenges Together
    Enhance communication and conflict resolution skills through this fun, interactive course.
  2. Adapting: Financial Planning for a Life with MS
    Learn the basic steps of planning for a financial future that includes MS.
  3. Career Crossroads: Facts and Fiction
    Learn to manage potential employment issues as a couple.
  4. Having Fun Together
    MS may interfere with things you enjoy doing as a couple. Learn to still have fun in new, adaptive ways.
  5. Intimacy: Enriching your Relationship
    Talk about tough issues that interfere with true intimacy and learn creative ways to overcome them.

2010 Teleconference Course Schedule


8 Hours to a Lifetime of Relationship Satisfaction
  • 90 minutes, 6 week series
  • Focuses on healthy communication and how to resolve conflict
  • Learn new skills through role playing, vignettes and break out calls


January Session
Begins January 5
(register by December 15)
• Meets Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST


February Session
Begins February 25
(register by February 8)
• Meets Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST

Jumpstart Your Relationship
  • 90 minutes, 6 week series
  • Focuses on the symptoms of MS, the emotional responses they can trigger, and ways a couple can communicate about them
  • Offered in collaboration with Can Do Multiple Sclerosis


January Session
Begins January 7
(register by December 15)
• Meets Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST


February Session
Begins February 23
(register by February 8)
• Meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. EST

You must register for either teleconference series.  Register by calling 1-800-344-4867 (press 1) or by e-mailing couplesprogram@nmss.org. You will receive the course materials once you have completed all registration requirements (couple enrollment and individual assessments).

Chat Room for Couples with MS

The National MS Society partners with MS World to offer chat rooms and other networking opportunities for those living with MS and their families. Join us every other Monday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Central, beginning Oct. 19, 2009, to chat with other couples with MS. If you do not already have an account with MS World, register at least 12 hours before the chat session that you wish to attend to obtain your password and login information.
