Events: Make your mark here!
It takes a village to put on our events. Some require a handful of volunteers for a couple hours, while others require hundreds of volunteers working months leading up to and after an event. Some require hard outdoor labor while others are comfortable, indoor assignments. Events can include everything from mass-market fundraising events to educational programs for the MS community. Events are truly a great way to get quickly introduced to the Society and help out with a short assignment that fits your personal needs and preferences. Best of all, they are great for individuals, families, and corporate groups.
Below is a list of our common event needs, but always check out our current opportunities list to see what else we might have coming up
- Bike MS Events: Our two-day, 150-mile+ bike rides are the largest, most-successful fundraising events for the National MS Society and require thousands of volunteers in communities throughout Texas. Our three Tours include the BP MS 150 Houston to Austin in April, the Bike MS: SAM’S CLUB Frisco to Fort Worth ride in May, and the Bike MS: Valero Bike to the Beach from San Antonio to Corpus Christi in October.
- Walk MS Events: The Walk MS is the signature event of the National MS Society. The Lone Star Chapter hosts 13 Walk events in either the spring or fall in communities throughout Texas. Each event requires hundreds of volunteers in order to have a safe, fun, and successful experience.
- Camps: Make a direct impact in the life of someone living with MS through an inspirational outdoors weekend. We host three weekend camps throughout the year at Camp For All in Burton, TX, including Camp Can Do (for individuals living with more progressive forms of MS), Family Discovery Camp (for families living with MS) and CHAMP Camp (for children diagnosed with MS). Additionally, we have a week-long Journey Camp in Fort Worth for children of parents living with MS.
- Valentine’s Socials: The year’s most heart-felt holiday is annually celebrated in the Lone Star Chapter with Texas-sized parties in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. Individuals living with MS, their friends and family come together for these special occasions to meet each other, socialize, eat and have fun. Held at various times throughout February, each party requires volunteer assistance for planning, decorating, set-up, registration, kids activities, food line assistance, and clean up.
- Educational Programs: Educational programs are offered throughout the year by the Lone Star Chapter. The goal of our programs is to offer educational opportunities and provide outlets for fun and growth for people living with MS, their family and friends. Volunteers are usually needed for greeting, registration, information, and set-up.
