Lachelle Lowe
My involvement for the MS Valentine's Social is finding gifts and door prizes from those who'd like to help brighten the lives of those affected by this disease. It has also allowed me to spread MS awareness. I joined the committee to be more involved and offer assistance where needed. The National MS Society has helped me and my family in so many ways; I hoped my involvement would reflect my gratitude. On the day of the social, I hope to see joy and happiness from all attendees. My involvement has given me a greater appreciation for the National MS Society and the hard work they contribute to all affected by MS.

Allen Fuller
The BP MS 150 started out as a small ride from Houston to Austin run almost exclusively by National MS Society staff. Going on its 25th year, it has evolved into the largest Bike MS ride in North America and relies on the support of a volunteer-driven steering committee. Allen Fuller has been a vital partner of this committee for the past 10 years and will take on the position of committee chairman in 2010. Allen said, "I enjoy being part of the effort and part of such a successful fundraiser. It is a great opportunity to work with such an established team of people to coordinate this great event. Ten years ago, I saw a need for someone to manage the delivery and set-up of (La Grange) the Friday before the ride and am still involved today. I have had the opportunity to work with the same people for many years and I know there is a good team here."

Anthony Armstrong
MS Entrepreneurs is a grant program sponsored by Kanaly Trust that provides opportunities to creative minds with visions or ideas to make a difference in the lives of those with MS. When Anthony’s mother-in-law was diagnosed with MS, Anthony and his wife became active in the Lone Star Chapter. Talking to his mother-in-law, Anthony had the idea to design a line of greeting cards specifically for people living with MS. Anthony’s idea has it roots in the old saying "laughter is the best medicine" He said, "We believe maintaining a sense of humor is an important part in the coping process and our cards remind others that it is OK to laugh in spite of everything. This is why we named them Best Medicine greeting cards. Ultimately, my goal is to provide an easier way for people who live with MS to maintain their social ties and to perform the same tasks they did before."

Hilary McVay
Advocates are an important part of creating a better social and political world for those with MS. As an advocate living with MS, Hilary McVay works year-round responding to advocacy-related Action Alerts and tirelessly championing important issues for Texans diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. To further educate legislators about daily challenges faced by persons with MS, Hilary eagerly agreed to lobby for better legislation regarding caregivers support and affordable health care at the MS Texas Public Policy Conference. Asked what was rewarding about the conference for her, Hilary said, "It was amazing to look up (from the floor of the House of Representatives) and see the sea of orange scarves (symbolizing the National MS Society’s mission). The biggest reward was being able to sit down with members of our Government Relations Committee. We are so blessed to have people like (committee co-chairs) Tracey Brinton and Esau Esau in our corner. My goal is to continue to motivate those living with MS to stay involved by sending letters to and meeting with our elected officials to tell them our stories."
