"I was born at an early age and have lived my entire life in Orem, Utah. I will be 18 in June and live with my parents and a 14-year-old brother and 9-year-old sister. I enjoy playing the tenor saxophone and played in the Orem High School jazz band. I am also learning the bagpipes! I enjoy playing video games (of course) and ultimate Frisbee, camping and hiking. I am an Eagle Scout and enjoy scouting-related activities. I spend a lot of time reading--anything I can. I also like to write and an currently working on a few different fictional works. I like creating things and along with writing, I compose music, draw, and build models.
I recently graduated from Orem High School with honors. I plan on working during the summer doing landscaping before entering Brigham Young University in the fall. I have not chosen a major yet, but am interested in a diversity of subjects, including history, government, engineering, and geography.
I am grateful for the scholarship from the MS Society. Multiple Sclerosis has touched my life in many ways. Because of MS, my mother is unable to do many of the things she used to around the house, so some of the responsibilities have fallen on me. My father is gone most of the day at work so I have to help with running errands and doing other things around the house. My mother sometimes runs out of energy at unpredictable times and is unable to do anything at all during these episodes, so we have to help out. Much of our family's resources have gone into treating this disease as well as adapting our lives to it, such as buying wheelchair and making the house more accessible. But learning to help out and adapt to the situations MS brings has helped me become a more responsible person in various areas of my life."
