2013 MS Dinner of Champions Honoree Announced

Congratulations, Joe Gieck

Joe Gieck, Professor Emeritus at University of Virginia, has been selected as the National MS Society 2013 MS Dinner of Champions honoree. Whether you are an athlete or a University of Virginia sports fan, you are familiar with Joe. As physical therapist at the University's Department of Athletics, for decades he aided athletes in managing, recovering and healing from some game-changing injuries. But Joe’s prowess didn’t stop with just serving athletes. He extended his caring heart to people who have multiple sclerosis by assisting them with physical therapy needs.

Joe is an active member of the community, serving with local organizations such as the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Virginia Amateur Sports, the Charlottesville-based Senior Center and the Sports Medicine Committee of the Virginia High School League.

Retired from the University of Virginia in 1985, he remains active in farming and real estate and provides patient care as a physical therapist at Performance Place in Charlottesville. Joe and his wife Sally have two daughters, Betsy and Katherine. They spend their summers in Montana where they have a second home.
