FAQ

 1) What is Weekend Escape?

-Weekend Escape is a respite camp designed to give families and friends an opportunity to take a break and enjoy a weekend of respite, fun, relaxation and education.

 2) When and where is Weekend Escape?

-Weekend Escape is always the first weekend after Labor Day. In 2009 it is September 11-13. Registration opens on July 1. Check-in will begin on Friday at 11 am and programs will end at 1pm on Sunday. It takes place at the Skelton 4H Center on beautiful Smith Mountain Lake.

3) What if I have a disability or need medical assistance?

-Then you are welcome to attend! The 4H Center is handicap accessible and there are lots of activities available to all people. The Blue Ridge Chapter also provides a health care staff so that caregivers get a break as well. All medical assistance is taken care of for the weekend.

 4) How much does it cost?

-The good news is everything is included (food, lodging etc.) for only $40 for adults and $25 under 18 years.

 5) Are there things for kids to do?

-Families will have the opportunity to participate in boat rides, putt-putt golf, swimming, horseshoes, crafts, tennis, fishing, etc. There are also kids activities during adult educational sessions.

6) Is there any entertainment planned?

-You better believe it! On Friday night we play a grand game of Bingo and Saturday night we host a talent review.

7)What are the topics of the education programs?

-Participants will be offered 3 educational programs to attend. The topics will include aquatics, fatigue, and mobility. A certified aquatics instructor will teach the Aquatics class. The fatigue and mobility program will be led by an occupational therapist and a physical therapist.

8) What is the lodging like?

-Lodging is in hotel style rooms that are clean, air conditioned, and private.

9) Are there any rules?

       -Yes
