Transportation

These programs may be of interest to people living with MS and their friends, family, co-workers and care partners. Please review the disclaimer before signing up or taking advantage of any of these non-National MS Society programs.


Handi-Ride


In the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, HRT provides lift equipped van service commonly known as Handi-Ride.

Handi-Ride service is available to certified passengers. To become certified call 757-222-6087 and request an eligibility application.


STAR Transit


STAR Transit is an organization whose sole purpose is to provide fast dependable, efficient and affordable public transportation to the citizens and visitors of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Inter-County Public Transportation Authority (ICPTA)
 

The intent of ICPTA is to provide high quality transportation services to the people who live or visit the five-county service area of Pasquotank, Perquimans, Camden, Chowan, and Currituck.

ICPTA services are intended to transport the general public to nutrition sites, medical appointments, and other locations in order to access services or attend activities related to daily living, while promoting improved quality of life.

LogistiCare


LogistiCare manages Medicaid non-emergancy medical transportation (NET) for the Commonwealth of Virginia. All trips must be arranged with and confirmed by LogsitCare. there are three types of transportation services available:

  • Ambulatory (able to walk)
  • Wheelchair
  • Non-emergancy ambulance/stretcher

Bay Transit


Bay Transit is a non-profit community transit service serving the counties of Charles City, Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland.

RIDES Program


RIDES provides non-emergency medical transportation to seniors 55 and older and the disabled of any age. Transportation is available to medical facilities located within the Greater Williamsburg Area. Limited transportation is available to the Lower Peninsula and Richmond.

A donation of $2 is requested per one way ride, but clients are never turned away because they can't donate.

MEDTRAN


MEDTRAN is a premiere non-emergency medical transportation program for Peninsula seniors who have no existing resources or alternatives. Its distinctiveness lies in the fact that seniors are transported solely by a team of caring and dedicated volunteers. The MEDTRAN service is the preferred mode of transportation by seniors as our volunteers provide a personalized, door-to-door service in their own vehicles. MEDTRAN provides a safe and reliable access to non-emergency medical care for seniors 60 and over.

Service is provided in the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and York County Monday through Friday.


MEDTRAN has partnered with Williamsburg Faith In Action to provide similar non-emergency medical transportation to seniors in Williamsburg and James City County.

Senior Services of Southeastern VA


When you need a ride, give us a call. We coordinate transportation for residents 60 and over and adults with disabilities with rides to medical and therapy appointments, Wellness Centers, Senior Centers, Adult Day Care Centers, and shopping. There’s a limit to one ride a week or four rides a month. If you need more frequent transportation, let us know. Senior Services partners with other local organizations that provide transportation as well.

Fee: We ask for a voluntary donation of $4 per trip.

I-Ride


Need a lift to the grocery story, pharmacy, work or for personal errands? Then leave the driving
to Senior Services’s. Our wheelchair-accessible bus stops services Franklin, Southampton, Courtland, Branchville, Boykins, Newsoms, and Isle of Wight. All ages are welcome!

$1 a ride; 12 and under ride for free but must be accompanied by an adult. Exact change only.
