Position Title: 2009 Bike MS Ride Volunteer Co-Manager

Time Commitment: February 2009 through May 2009
                                    NOTE: This job can be managed from home or in the Chapter Office.

Hours: As necessary - Determined by individual(s)

Supervised by: Kathy Whitlock, Special Events Director

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Recruit approximately 200 volunteers (with the assistance of the Chapter’s Special Events Director and the existing Co-Manager) for the two-day 2009 Bike MS Ride for various positions including: registration, rest stops, cabin check-in, SAG vehicles, etc.
  • Utilize current names on volunteer database as well as recruit new volunteers.
  • Serve on Bike Event Planning Committee and attend monthly meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers pertaining to Bike Ride information updates.
  • Supervise volunteers throughout the duration of the event.
  • Follow-up with volunteers post-event with thank you letter.

Additional Comments:

  • Individual(s) must be willing to commit to this position from February to May of 2009 for recruitment, supervision and follow-up.
  • A team of two or three people could fill this position.
  • Volunteer should be detail-oriented, organized, and be able to work very well with others.
  • Adhere to confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Training for all aspects of the position will be provided.

Position Title: 2009 Bike MS Ride Lunch Stop Coordinator

Time Commitment: February 2009 through May 2009

Hours:
Weekend of the bike ride May 30 & 31, 2009 and monthly committee meetings

Supervised by: Kathy Whitlock, Special Events Director

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate & organize lunch stops each day.
  • Supervise and direct volunteers at lunch stops.
  • Serve on Bike Event Planning Committee and attend monthly meetings.

Additional Comments:

  • Individual must be willing to commit to this position from February to May, 2009.
  • A team of two people can fill this position.
  • Volunteer should be detail-oriented, organized, and be able to work very well with others.
  • Volunteers will follow confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Training will be provided for aspects of their position.
     

Position Title: bike MS Ride Supply Truck Crew 

Time Commitment: Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31, 2009

Supervised by: Kathy Whitlock, Special Events Director

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Driver – 25 years or older. Shotgun – 16 years or older. Will need valid Drivers License and Insurance.
  • Assist in the loading of Supply Trucks Friday before the ride weekend.
  • Will stay with Crew and Staff Friday and Saturday night. Meals and sleeping arrangements provided by the Chapter.
  • Coordinate delivery and retrieval of supplies for a portion of the bike route Saturday and Sunday of the ride. Require loading and unloading of supplies. Must be able to lift.
  • Make sure every rest stop is appropriately stocked with food, drink, first aid kits, etc.
  • Help with the set-up of Cape Charles and unloading Sunday in Virginia Beach.

Additional Comments:

  • Volunteer be able to read maps and able to work in a team setting.
  • Volunteers will follow confidentiality policies and procedures.
  •  Volunteers will be trained to specific event logistics and needs. Will be trained in procedures in case of an emergency during event weekend
