Dr. Bowen is currently the Medical Director at Multiple Sclerosis Center, Swedish Neuroscience Institute. Prior to that, he was Medical Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Evergreen since June 2006.

He was affiliated with the multiple sclerosis centers at the University of Washington since 1987 and at the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System since 1998. He directed the neurology services for both of these clinics and the Multiple Sclerosis Research Center at the University of Washington. He was a co-investigator with the Veterans Administration Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence, West. He is now a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology. In addition to clinical care, he participates in a number of research activities including studies of potential treatments, imaging, and quality of life issues. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, invited articles, and research abstracts. He serves on the board of directors for the Greater Washington Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society where he chairs the Clinical Advisory Committee. He serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the National MS Society and since 2006 has chaired the Research Peer-Review Committee for Patient Care, Management and Rehabilitation. He was inducted into the National MS Society Hall of Fame for Health Professionals and Researchers in 2005.
