Tom is a partner at Miller Nash, LP. He advises clients with respect to formation of business entities and the appropriate form in which to conduct business. He also handles legal matters that businesses encounter in their operations. His practice includes ownership transition and estate planning for the principals of closely held business. Tom's clients include design professionals, as well as a variety of clients engaged in water-related activities, such as fish-processing companies, fisherman and tugboat operators.

Tom is admitted to practice law in the State of Washington and before the US District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Washington, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Court, and the US Tax Court. He is a member of the King County Bar Association, the Washington State Bar Association, and Estate Planning Council of Seattle. Tom has been listed in the "Best Lawyers in America" since 1995.

Tom is actively involved in the Rotary Club of Emerald City (past president, 1994-1995); the Glaser Foundation (president); the Washington Delta Upsilon Educational Foundation; Rocky Mountain College (member, Board of Trustees, 1996-1999, National Advisory Council (1999-present)); the Bainbridge Island Public Library (board president, 1993-1999); and chair of the Visiting Committee of the University of Washington's Department of Economics (2006).

Tom received his bachelor's degree in economics and his law degree from the University of Washington.
