I am not flexible. Could I enjoy yoga?
Yes, absolutely. To enjoy and benefit from this class, you do not need to be flexible. Instead, this class helps you to become more flexible, no matter how inflexible you are to begin with. We focus on easy stretches, gentle movements, and simple breathing awareness. You may be surprised how easy it is to enjoy yoga.
I live in a wheelchair. Will I be able to participate in the class?
Yes. The majority of the class is done in a seated position, either in a sturdy chair or in your own wheelchair or scooter-it’s your choice. The class adapts to the preferences and needs of each individual. For example, we may reach one arm out to one side for a gentle twist of the torso. Some class members may choose to do this movement seated, while other choose to do this movement in a standing position. It all works. You decide what works for you.
What is the facility like?
The room is ground level and surrounded by a lovely park. There is a comfortable, friendly waiting area, which is especially nice if you are waiting for some time before or after class due to your transportation arrangements. Wheelchair accessible bathrooms are a few feet away from the waiting area.
What should I wear?
Wear layered, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably. The room is generally a nice, comfortable temperature, but layering your clothing can help you to be most comfortable. A T-shirt plus a light sweater or sweat shirt, and comfortable pants work well. You can choose to wear shoes or remove your shoes and simply wear your socks.
Should I bring anything to class?
Yoga mats and chairs are provided. If you have your own yoga mat, feel free to bring it. It’s useful to bring a large towel or blanket, if possible.
I have a service dog. May I bring my dog to class with me?
Yes, your service dog is welcome. Generally, we have one to three dogs with us in class. All are well-behaved and some are service dogs-in-training. Plus, Les Gove Park has a nice, open walking trail where you may want to take your dog for a walk before or after class. (Several class members take advantage of the park in this way.)
I have a companion/driver who will come with me. May she/he come to the class?
Yes, your friend is welcome to participate in the class with you. (Or may choose to relax in the waiting area or enjoy the surrounding park.)
