Wellness Grants

Wellness can mean different things for different people. For some it's a physical state, and others it's a state of mind. For us, "wellness" embodies a satisfying balance of self-care, play and work or productive activities. Wellness comprises your body, mind and spirit.

Our Chapter offers wellness education, meetings and retreats throughout the year on many different topics and in a variety of class sizes and locations. From women’s retreats to health expos, couple’s getaways to wellness series, you’ll find something just for you. Check back regularly for updates and to register.

Testimonials:

“I can’t tell you how wonderful this Wellness Grant was. I started with water aerobics; the first 15 minutes I tried it, I didn’t think I was going to make it. But, I kept getting stronger and stronger; the water has improved my balance and my range of motion. This grant has affected the whole family. I took my granddaughter to class with me one day and she had so much fun. It makes me want to get out, try new things, and enjoy life. I can’t thank you enough.”

"Long ago, while attending elementary school, there were a lot of girls who liked to pretend they were horses and enjoyed playing together in a covered area of our playground. While they were stomping their “hooves,” I was busy playing hopscotch and tether ball with some other kids outside. Now at 51 years old, MS has taken the “hop out of my scotch” so now I am the one with horses.

These are therapeutic horses that are specially trained to help the disabled population of children and adults who are fortunate enough to attend classes at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. I started about five years ago and I have been attending a weekly class ever since. For my first ride, I had an instructor, three volunteers, referred to as “side walkers,” all around the horse and me for my safety and the horse’s introduction to me, a new and very nervous rider. Despite my apprehension, it was a wonderful experience. The volunteers and instructor were all so kind and made me feel like I could do this again. So I did! After attending weekly classes since then, I am now able to independently ride a horse, along with three other physically challenged adults, in a class we all take together.

While riding, the motion of the horse simulates hip movement required for normal walking, thus improving the quality of my gait and increasing my core muscle strength. I am so glad and grateful that my husband suggested I apply for a wellness grant to help out with the cost of my classes. The grant paid for my spring quarter class and a portion of summer quarter.

I can now proudly say that I am one of those girls, albeit older, who has learned to appreciate this special animal."
